I went out shopping the other day for a wedding gift at my local Robinsons/May department store.  I am not an enthusiastic shopper by nature, and also my busy life does not often allow much time for leisurely shopping.  So, until just recently when I have had a few
important purchases to make, it had been a while since I slowly browsed the aisles of the housewares departments in major stores.

I was actually really delighted with the wide variety of dinnerware and glassware I saw.  From the most luxurious china like the Noritake trimmed in platinum or gold,  to the antique charm of toile designs, to
the bold and fun statement of solid color stoneware,  to the retro appeal of fifties-style graphics-- there really seemed to be "something
for everyone".

I was struck by the same impression a month or so ago,  when shopping at another store which specializes in housewares, The Great Indoors.   There I admired the simple substance of "restaurant style" white
platters and mugs, the subtle pastels and funky shapes of contemporary glassware styles, the earthy tones of hand-fired stoneware.

I have also noticed that many catalog companies that specialize in linens, giftware or other products are also offering interesting dinnerware and sometimes glassware.  Prices through these companies are
often discounted substantially, so even if your budget is not large, you could spruce up your dining table with something new that's really "you".

Not every couple registers, but many of you will be in the market for at least a few new things for your home together.  The good news, to me, is that there are currently an inspiring variety of styles to help each of
us express ourselves in our homes.  I am personally planning to invest in new dishes and glassware within the next two years, and frankly, I'm not sure how I'll EVER decide what I like the best!!
